Abstract
This study stems from the understanding that public security is both a duty of the State and a fundamental right of society, demanding strategic actions aimed at preventing violence and crime. In this context, preventive policing emerges as a key instrument for addressing criminal activity, especially when integrated with operational planning and statistical data analysis. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of preventive policing within the 8th Military Police Battalion (8o BPM), based on the observation of three crime indicators recorded within the unit’s area of operation: Intentional Lethal Violent Crimes (CVLI), Violent Property Crimes (CVP), and Motor Vehicle Theft (SIVA). To this end, the research adopted a mixed-methods approach, with an applied and descriptive nature, employing a literature review, document analysis, and the survey of statistical data related to crime indicators. The theoretical framework is grounded in studies by authors such as David Bayley (2001), Herman Goldstein (1990), and Sherman (1998), among others, who discuss preventive policing models, police management, and crime analysis. The results demonstrate that the strategic deployment of overt preventive policing contributes to enhancing public security operations and reducing specific crime indicators, particularly in areas with higher delinquency rates. Therefore, it is concluded that using these indicators as an operational planning tool strengthens evidence-based decision- making, contributing to the efficiency of police actions, the preservation of public order, and th effective realization of the right to public security.
