As diretrizes Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) orientaram o processo de seleção.
Abstract
Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is one of the leading public health problems in Brazil and is associated with high rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Among workers exposed to intense stress, such as military police officers, the prevalence of SAH tends to be even higher than in the general population, due to the physical and psychological particularities of police work. This study aimed to review the scientific literature on arterial hypertension and the factors associated with this condition among military police officers in Brazil. The search was conducted in the Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (BVS), and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) databases, restricted to publications from the past five years. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines guided the selection process. Of the 30 publications identified, ten met the eligibility criteria. The results revealed that studies are scarce and mostly focus on male military police officers engaged in operational activities. The prevalence of SAH was found to be high, strongly influenced by chronic occupational stress, behavioral risk factors, and significant consequences for both health and professional performance. It is concluded that military police officers constitute a population of heightened vulnerability, requiring preventive actions and continuous health surveillance programs.
