Resumo
Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar o processo de preservação dopatrimôniohistórico e cultural da Polícia Militar da Paraíba (PMPB), concomitantementeexaminando as ações concretas empreendidas pela instituição para a manutençãode sua memória institucional junto à sociedade paraibana. Historicamente, atemática da preservação patrimonial tem sido negligenciada no contextodacorporação, apesar de seus 193 anos de existência. O foco central dapesquisareside na compreensão das estratégias e condições estabelecidas pelaPMPBparaa perpetuação de seu acervo histórico e cultural. A metodologia empregadaédenatureza documental e bibliográfica, baseada na compilação de Leis estaduais, publicações oficiais da PMPB (leis e decretos), artigos e livros especializados disponíveis em meio eletrônico, complementada pela coleta de depoimentos de membros da corporação e observação direta. Finalmente, a investigação culmina com uma reflexão crítica sobre o status quo da preservação histórica da PMPB, focando especificamente em seu patrimônio material. Argumenta-se que esta discussão possui extrema pertinência no cenário contemporâneo, dada a recorrência de debates sobre temas correlatos.
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the preservation process of the historical and cultural heritage of the Military Police of Paraíba (PMPB), concurrently examining the concrete actions undertaken by the institution to maintain its institutional memory within Paraíba's society. Historically, the theme of heritage preservation has been neglected within the context of the corporation, despite its 193 years of existence. The central focus of the research lies in understanding the strategies and conditions established by the PMPB for the perpetuation of its historical and cultural collection. The methodology employed is of a documentary and bibliographical nature, based on the compilation of state laws, official publications of the PMPB (laws and decrees), specialized articles, and books available in electronic media, complemented by the collection of testimonies from members of the corporation and direct observation. Finally, the investigation culminates in a critical reflection on the status quo of the historical preservation of the PMPB, focusing specifically on its tangible heritage. It is argued that this discussion is extremely relevant in the contemporary scenario, given the recurrence of debates on related themes.
